What We Do

Our Resource Centre, based at Lister House in Carlisle, is a friendly, welcoming place which offers a social hub to adults with disabilities. Here, they can meet people, enjoy all kinds of activities, and have the opportunity to learn new skills in a lively and supportive environment. We have a wonderful garden area , where we can spend the summer BBQing and playing our outdoor games, and a conservatory for the cooler days so we can still enjoy all our facilities

Our team at the Centre are committed to supporting individuals in person-centred care. We make sure that everyone has a personalised care package specially adapted to their individual needs - we will identify their care needs and provide the right level of staffing to support them. For example, we have a wetroom and specialist Carendo shower chair – as well as being able to offer use of the facilities, our staff are trained to support the individual in a personal and dignified manner, enabling them to have a shower.

We also offer sensory stimulation such as lights, sensory activities, hand massages, music, as well as normal everyday chatter – one-to-one and in groups. This is a very important (and enjoyable!) part of maintaining social inclusion.

Our staff are very experienced, and have a long history of working in care settings. They ensure the day centre is a fun environment and include each of our clients in planning their day and offering activities to suit individuals and groups.

We have an activity agenda to encourage and inspire independence and creativity - for example, we offer training in computer skills ,gaming and maths & English classes.

Our gardening group grows vegetables and herbs in our sensory garden, while our craft groups decorate plant pots for them. The music group is very popular with our regulars.

As well as our regular activities, our plans include

  • Candle making
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Inter-House competitions - Dominoes, Bake-offs, Wii challenges and much more
  • Cooking, Baking and menu planning
  • Cushion making, needlecraft & knitting
  • Pottery crafts, resin arts and gift making
  • Gardening , planting and then cooking our home-grown produce
  • Small animal care , with our gorgeous Guinea Pigs
  • Plus a person centred range of activities and fun outings & day trips.

Our staff are dedicated to making the Centre a place of fun and meaningful activity for our visitors.
